Combining the best parts of various Vixen Mounts, this easy to use mount offers quality components for superior stability. A great companion to your telescope system.

McGill PORTA II Mount

The McGill PORTA II Mount is a step up from the standard Porta II Mount. It features the well designed Vixen Porta II Head atop the SXG-HAL130 heavy duty aluminium tripod for a rigid platform with great stability. The performance of the SXG-HAL130 tripod rivals that of a 1.75" tubular steel tripod from the ubiquitous EQ5 class mount from Sky-Watcher/Celestron, but at a much lighter weight (5.5kg) compared to the latter!

The World-Standard dovetail attachment system on this mount was developed by Vixen. This allows the mount head to accept various dovetail-mounted optical tubes and binoculars. Comes with an accessory tray and 2 short rigid handles for slow motion controls in horizontal and vertical directions

PORTA II Mount Features

A proven performer for many years, this mount is a great delight to use for both beginners and seasoned observers using compact telescopes of less than 6kg. If your telescope is more than 4" aperture (Refractor) or 5" aperture (MCT/SCT) or exceeds 6kg, we suggest upgrading to the ultra stable Vixen APZ altazimuth mount which can easily take 8kg and offers slow motion controls too!

For users who prefer an ultra light weight setup for travel, the Vixen APP-TL130 tripod is a better choice since it is 3kg only.

Comparison between HAL130 and TL130 Tripods: Former steady, latter compact but less steady.
